Sept 12, Wake, 2 PM,
largest scar about 3/32" wide by 1/2"
long grooved into softer powdery outer
coating of egg down to bluish harder
layer of shell. Eggs appeared to be
very old, possibly [illegible] months but
they gave no sound on my shaking
tthem. Reaction of the nesting
bird was complaining not defence
when forced she? would make
half hested thrusts repeatedly
uttered a hollow whistled note, when
I rolled the egg I had examined
back with a twig she? nudged
it under her with her bill, bill
vibrated rapidly when used for rolling
the egg.
Feb 14 Wake PM. number seen along south tide
Wake - ?
April 2 - Few seen along southeast side of Wake
Aug. 23 - No birds seen since last date,
Eve about 4 times, waited at seaward
side of Peale but none came by,
lots of Red footed and brown boobies
came by, however.
