T.L-yons 1939 Blue Faced Booby pg a
June 26 - M. - Wake - Many nesting on
(see note for Red Footed)
eastern part of the island, all seen
were from half grown in size (still
all white down) to stage where they
could fly, probably also many
of this years birds young flying
about. Rest with head down, even
lower than feet, just sort of hang,
very oblivious to surroundings in
this state - I walked up & caught
an adult this way.
4 PM
June 29 - Wilkes - Frigate bird chasing booby
Just over tree kept right on tail, didn't
strike
July-6 to 12 - many dusky birds seen from
outside launch while trolling have a
color line across breast at abt same
place as adults (darker anteriorly) presence
immature plumage or other plumage phases
of sp.
The fine gravel, eggs were white
but very dirty scarred & blood
stained I scrawl appears to have been
made by a thrust with the bill
