10/2/40 T. Lyons 1939 Wake Islands #74 Coo Coo ad ♂, total l 398 body l 95±3 bill yellowish, feet dark greyish olive Seen in front of hotel quite shy, flushed once aft first seen, typical coo coo action, perched in foliage of Turnfortia (called it a coo-coo before I shot it when tho I shot surely it could not be) obtained gage shot gun aft 15 minutes. Hunted for 2 hours, finally saw the bird working around in brushy growth of Turnfortia just east of Chicken yd. 50 ft. approached, too close & shot it 2½ chilled shot. Prepared in evening. The morning was overcast the preceding day was the 'first completely cloudy day we have had this rainy season, storms in vicinity will make further check on weather conditions for preceding days in central Pacific. First real stormy weather- (convergent south to west>North-11/28/39) Striking feat was amt of fat on bird, fattest bird I have ever shined volume of pieces actually detached = to head (outside climentions)
