Wake Island
Weather fair but Cumulo nimbus to the south and west - Tide ebb at start flood at finish
Time 9:45 - 4:00 Heavy sea from East
Route - Cross lagoon in outboard motor with one of maintenance boys, looked over work at the outside dock, then walk all the way around the ocean side of Wake, waded Peal channel made a /ber line for hotel.
Notes - collected 25 glass balls. Saw two 10 lb (±) alba side by side (one dark & one blue) in 1 ft water over reef near Wilkes - Wake Channel, tide ebb.
About 4 pig fish, 3-4 lbs, single up in shallow water South of Wilkes' Wake Channel, one king fish light green back, Great lot of eels some in tiny puddle foot or two above low tide. 3/4" diam to 1 3/4" most about 1/4" diam. Saw no sharks tho tide hi when waded across Wake-Peal channel Wait deep
Started counting shore birds but they kept flying ahead so persistently only an approximate count could be made.
Between Wilkes - Wake Channel & Southern tip of Wake Turnstones - 20 Tattlers - 25 Curlew - 3 between S. tip of wake and Wake Peal channel Turnstones - 5 Tattlers - 1 Curlew - 1 Sand piper - 5
