July 18 - Wake AM S.S.E. side, middle
of crecent of beach, 1/2 mi East of
Labbelle wreckage. One bird seen,
definately not golden plowr - half again
larger, some time soon aft for comparison.
bill longer, would stick out if projected
back thru head -> posture not so
erect slate color hue of plumage,
dark above light beneath, no markings
noticed approached to within 100 ft
bird flushed twice, on tidal otal
shelf. Same bird maybe, I seen in
same place as bird noted on June 26
under sand piper.
Aug 5 - 3:00 - Wilkes - half way from
pier to North point one bird flew
around me as I walked along the
shore ... m -> seemed smaller than
the above but couldn't be sure.
The color was lighter however.
The back was a light slate color
Sept 12, Wake 10:30 - 3:30 20 birds seen
from Wilks-Wake Channel to S tip of
Wake, one bird seen East of S tip.
Birds seem to be where there are
rocks, not on sand or gravel, especially
abundant around tide pools between Wilkes
Channel & S tip of Wake, when flush
give a series of 3 - 5 whistled notes somewhat
similar to Calif Mt quail but lower
pitch, the note the louder,
drops as the series is uttered, the
last note noticeably weaker. Came on one
