June 9, AM Peal - 5 nests seen on way
from quarter to Coral Cables, 4 with
young bird [2 inches long 2 inches hi
covered with sooty white down] and one
brown spots shadows concentrated on large end
with egg - egg light buff, almost exact
shape of chicken egg, a bit more pointed.
Nest a mass of Tournefortia leaves twigs +
fruiting clusters in fork of limb of
Tournefortia, generally a 3 way fork from 3
feet to 8 feet off of ground - so far about 35 nests
observed. 10:00 Not yet observed young
being fed but on one nest with young
bird also in middle down stage (3 inches long
sitting + standing 3 1/2 inches hi) was
a regurgitated fish - skin off head & part
third of body gone, sardine shaped fish
no signs of the young having touched it.
10:30, flock of 38 birds resting on sand flat
on southern shore of island at this time
between said spit on Peale-Wake channel - by
about 100 resting on sand flat at southern edge of...
