Itinerary
July 11 Twin Buttes, Skamania Co., Wash.
40 mouse traps among scattered conifers
and huckleberry bushes near camp. The
catch was:
Peromyscus maniculatus 3 ? 2 ?
Zapus 1 ?
Later in the morning I shot a
Mt. bluebird and a red-breasted nuthatch, a
large hawk of undetermined sp. was
seen flying high.
July 12 Twin Buttes, Skamania Co., Wash.
Yesterday evening I set four No. 0
spring traps and 20 mouse traps
at - Twin Buttes R.S., 3900 ft., 3 mi. WSW
Steamboat Mt., Skamania Co., Wash. This
locality is about 1/4 mi NW of camp.
The spring traps were set in Aplodontia
burrows and the mouse traps about a
large windfall and along a small stream
flowing through heavy timber and dense
undergrowth. On the way to set the
traps a weasel was seen crossing the road.
Deer tracks are quite numerous - the
deer seem to be feeding about a large
burned over area which is covered with
fallen logs, second growth conifers, willows,
alder, and poplars and also huckleberry
bushes. The catch was:
