Itinerary
July 9 Hood River, Hood River Co., Oregon
Bedrolls in the sedan along with
some traps and food. We intend
to cross the toll bridge to the
Wash. side of the R. and make
camp somewhere above "White Salmon"
in the vicinity of Mt. Adams.
July 10 Ice Caves, in Skamania Co., Wash.
yesterday we crossed into Wash., drove
to "Trout Lake", and inquired at the Mt.
Adams ranger station about a
camp site. Nearby at "Guler" we
eat dinner and then drove W. to the
Ice Caves to camp. I set out 50 mouse
traps and caught:
Peromyscus maniculatus 7 o 3 ?
Eutamias townsendii 1 o
The country about here is typical
upper transition. Douglas fir and yellow
pine predominate over a lower growth
of vine maple, alder, and scattering
willows. There are occasional
Lawson cypress but they are not
as numerous as on the Ore. side.
All the animals were caught last night
on the forest floor among fallen logs
and underbrush.
