Itinerary
Hood River, Hood River Co., Oregon
Yesterday we broke camp at Brooks
Mdw. about 3:00 P.M. Instead of
ging back by way of the E. fork
of the Hood R. we took the
road along the ridge to the north.
This road generally follows the
backbone of the ridge and finally
drops down to the Hood R. Valley in
the vicinity of Parkdale. Because
the Dodge truck had developed a
bad grinding in its rear universal
joint, we stopped at the Dodge
agency in Hood River, where a
mechanic discovered that a part
of the universal joint had become
crystallized and broken. As no
repair parts were available in
Hood River, it was necessary to
order them from Portland. The parts
were due on the stage this morning;
so we slept along the Columbia R.
near Hobert Hohberg's Beach about
2 mi E of Hood River.
Bats were seen flying about in
the evening and several species of
birds were noted: Cliff swallow, swift
(apparently Vaux), great blue heron, gulls sp.
