Itinerary
July 2 Columbia R. at mouth of Deschutes R.
traps. The catch was:
Thomomys talpoides 107 2?
Peromyscus maniculatus 107 1?
Scapanus orarius 107
The Thommys and the Scapanus were
caught in an alfalfa patch along the
R. The Scapanus was caught in
a Thomamys hole. The Peromyscus
were caught at the edge of the
alfalfa field in a patch of Chenopodium.
Birds seen about the mouth of the
Deschutes R. are: Crow, raven, canada
goose, spotted sandpiper, brewer black-bird,
redwing blackbird, lazuli bunting, song
sparrow, bark sparrow, bullock oriole,
arkansas kingbird, western nighthawks,
robin, hildren, and calif. quail.
Two Sceloporus were shot near camp
in the sagebrush. In the afternoon
I shot 107 Violet green swallow, 1 cliff
swallow, and 1 lazuli bunting at camp.
About 4:00 P.M. Johnson and I drove over
to Miller's place, which is about 1/2 mi.
