Trughurst 1939 Itinerary July 1 Columbia R. at mouth of Deschutes R. some small grass covered islets near shore. Animals caught were: Peromyscus maniculatus 1 07 M Mus musculus 1 07 One Peromyscus was caught along the edge of the R. and one among the sagebrush. The Mus was caught on one of the small islets. The islets were covered with a high growth of Carex and some of them had scambly alders growing on them. The country about camp is generally divided into two associations: the low sagebrush covered hills bordering the R., and the banks of the R. itself which are greener and have alders, willows, and cottonwoods growing on them. There are also little patches of meadow along the R. The soil is generally fine sandy as is characteristic of this whole region. July 2 Columbia R. at mouth of Deschutes R. We are still camped at the same place in Wasco Co., but last night I set traps in some cultivated fields across the Deschutes R. directly in Sherman Co. directly opposite camp. I set 5 sets of gopher traps, and 40 mouse
