Crooked R. at Bear Cr.
Camp was broken about 12:00 A.M. and
we went on down the Crooked R. to
Prineville. A woodchuck was seen
crossing the road about 9 1/2 mi up the
R. from Prineville. Another was picked
up dead in the road at the same
place. We went on out to Redmond
and turned north; stopped for lunch
at P.S. Ogden State Park, and continued on
to the Columbia R. We reached the
Columbia at Biggs and turned west
to the mouth of the Deschutes R.
where we made camp.
The Columbian Plateau country
which we traveled through for
the last part of the day's trip
was quite barren with few
junipers. Much of the land was
under cultivation, especially for wheat.
The low vegetation was made up
chiefly of sagebrush, Chrysocoma, and
bunsel grass.
