Longmont 1939 Citellus b. douglasii Oct 21 Huiduca Cr. 10:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. Observations were not carried on continuously over this period, nor were they observed before or after the stated times so that they may have been out foraging over a longer time. Two were noted about a woodpile which had been piled between 1 & 7mo. Another colony was established under a bridge over the Cr. Cars pass over this bridge frequently and the squirrels always run under the bridge as the car approaches. The appearance of a red-tailed hawk, which I alighted in a eucalyptus tree by the Cr. over the holes sent the squirrels scurrying down them. They brought cover fully 10 sec. before the hawk alight showing they had sighted it at some distance Nov. 5 Huiduca Cr. Hibernation seems to have definitely started. The numbers of squirrels seen today are much fewer than on Oct. 21. Only three adults & five young were noted about the colony under observation.
