Itinerary
Oct.2 Hinchica Cr.
I also set 8 snares for brush
rabbits using #22 wire and setting
them on trails at the edge the Baccharis
The wires were merely secured to
Baccharis bushes and no attempt at
a spring arrangement was tried. The
catch was:
Microtus c. aestuarinus 1?
Perithodotomys halocites haliocetes 2? 1?
Sylvilagus bachmani
The Microtus were caught among a
dense growth of Salicornia, Frindelia
cuneifolia, and marsh.
After collecting the traps Marshall
and I returned to the ranch. In the
evening I shot -
Mystis californicus 1?
Tadarida mexicana 1?
Both were collected near the Cr.
After dark we went up the Cr. in
search of screech owls but did not
secure any. However, we did see one
Meplatris and several Lepus c.
Birds seen about the marshes
during the last two days include:
green-winged teal, mallard, shovelers, ruddy
ducks, greater snow goose, avocet, least sandpiper,
