Itinerary
Oct. 20 Hnichica Cr., 200 ft., Napa Co, Calif.
Yesterday Joe Marshall and I
drove up from Berkeley. In the evening
I set out 40 mouse traps about a barn
and along a small wash filled with
high dry grass. The catch was:
Mus musculus 1?
Peromyscus maniculatus 1?
The Mus was caught in the barn among
bales of hay & the Peromyscus was caught
in the wash. In the evening I also shot
one Myotis californicus 1?
This morning Marshall and I drove
down to the Napa R. below Cuttings
wharf and securing my 12 ft. duck
boat spent the day collecting birds
along the small tidal sloughs. On
W. Side Napa R., 8 1/2 mi S, 2 1/2 mi. W Napa (South Napali.)
I collected Melospiza melodia 4
Junco 2
Savannah sparrows 4?
The song sparrows were taken among
the tule; the savannah sparrows in
an open field; & the juncos in a grove
of eucalyptus. In the evening I
set out 45 mouse traps baited with
oatmeal on the small island E. side Napa
R., 1/2 mi S. Cuttings Wharf, Napa Co, Calif.
