Longhurst 1939 Itinerary Oct. 20 Hnichica Cr., 200 ft., Napa Co, Calif. Yesterday Joe Marshall and I drove up from Berkeley. In the evening I set out 40 mouse traps about a barn and along a small wash filled with high dry grass. The catch was: Mus musculus 1? Peromyscus maniculatus 1? The Mus was caught in the barn among bales of hay & the Peromyscus was caught in the wash. In the evening I also shot one Myotis californicus 1? This morning Marshall and I drove down to the Napa R. below Cuttings wharf and securing my 12 ft. duck boat spent the day collecting birds along the small tidal sloughs. On W. Side Napa R., 8 1/2 mi S, 2 1/2 mi. W Napa (South Napali.) I collected Melospiza melodia 4 Junco 2 Savannah sparrows 4? The song sparrows were taken among the tule; the savannah sparrows in an open field; & the juncos in a grove of eucalyptus. In the evening I set out 45 mouse traps baited with oatmeal on the small island E. side Napa R., 1/2 mi S. Cuttings Wharf, Napa Co, Calif.
