Itinerary
Oct.7 Huichica Cr.
On the 6th
At the ranch I also set out five
sets of gopher traps in the orchard,
one set of gopher traps in a mole
run, and one mole trap in a mole
run. The catch at the ranch was:
Thomomys bottae 2♀
Scapanus latimanus 1♂
The mole was caught in a gopher
trap set at the edge of the orchard
in a mole run.
The knoll in the marshes has
numerous signs of Microtus workings
and also many Rabbit trails
among the grass and Baccharis.
I pick up the skull of a rabbit -
apparently that of a Sylvilagus.
Oct.8 Huichica Cr.
The four sets of #2 steeltraps
were left out in the same
locality over the night of the 7th
and in one a ? Sylvilagus sp.? was caught. It had apparently
gotten in the trap by accident
and not because of the garden
bait. The trap was set almost
directly upon a rabbit trail!
