about 3ft. higher than the surrounding marsh. The vegetation on the knoll consists mainly of Baccharis, a few Quercus douglasii, Quercus agrifolia, and a heavy growth of grass. The flora of the surrounding marshes is Salicornia sp., Spartina foliosa, Juncelia emneifolia, and at least two kinds of reeds.
Birds seen about the knoll include: red-winged black birds (Agubemator californicus), black-crowned night herons, short-eared owl, flicker, a pair of white-tailed hites (Perch in oaks), and meadow-larks.
Traps were set across the knoll among the dry grass, at the edge of Baccharis thickets, and among heavy Salicornia on both the N. and S.W. sides of the knoll. They were baited with oat meal and set 5-10 yd apart.
The catch was:
Reithrodontomys haliocetes 2 &
Microtus californicus aestuarius 1 &
They were all caught among heavy Salicornia at the high tide level.
The steel traps were baited sardines and set about the knoll among the Baccharis.
