Peromyscus maniculatus
Aug. 10 Kingston Canyon, 7000 ft., Lander Co., Nevada
P. maniculatus were very abundant here. They were caught along the Cr., some at the water's edge and some a few feet back under willows, birch, junipers. Four out of 8 caught were noted to be carrying the larvae of warbles, or botl flies encysted beneath their skin on the back just anterior to the base of the tail. The larvae were very large in both cases being approximately 1/5 the weight of the mouse. In both cases the larvae were also facing posteriorly with their heads protruding from the skin.
Aug. 15 Baker Cr., 11,106 ft., White Pine Co., Nevada
Peromyscus seemed less numerous at this locality than at Kingston Canyon. Possibly this was due to the fact that most of the traps were set in very marshy ground. The one that were caught were taken on dry ground among rocks and under spruce trees. One was noted to be carrying a botl larva in the same manner as those at Kingston Canyon
