Itinerary
Aug. 21 Troy Cr., 5400 ft.
failed to find any trace of sheep.
Deer sign was very plentiful
along the Cr. and high up, willow
overt several from a distance.
During the day several short
thunder showers passed over.
golden
Two eagles were seen flying
high. In the evening we
liked down the canyon to camp
reaching there about 9:00 P.M.
The fact that domestic sheep
had been ranged on the ridge
and the E. side of the mts, above
Troy Canyon might have driven
out the mt. sheep.
The area about camp is
thickly grown up along the Cr.
with willows, cottonwoods, wild roses
and sagebrush. The surrounding
hills are sparsely covered with
sagebrush, junipers, and a few spruce
pines. Farther up the canyon the
junipers and spruces become
thicker and at higher elevations
(The head of the canyon) are many
fir and aspen trees. Sparrow hawks
and green tailed towhees are numerous.
