Longmont 1939 Itinerary Aug. 19 Troy Cr., 5400 ft. Nye Co., Nevada The night of the 17th we drove from Baker to Cleve Cr. where we camped for the night. On the morning of the 18th we contacted Alec Kolchek, an old miner on Cleve Cr. for information concerning mt. sheep in the Shell Cr. Range. He told us that there used to be many sheep in the rough cliffs S of Cleve Cr. to the head of Bastian Cr. *also but that he had not seen any 'for the past five yrs. He also said that he had guided Major Goldman into these cliffs about fifteen yrs. ago, and that although they saw some sheep, they were unable to collect any. After talking with Kolchek we drove S to the Bastion Ranch and then turned W up Bastian Cr. which we followed to the foot of the cliffs. There we left the car and hunted for the remainder of the day from Bastian Cr. about 4 mi. N. We saw no definite evidence of mt. sheep except some old beds high up in
