Itinerary
Aug. 18 Cleve Cr., 8800 ft.
were being officially reported.
He also suggested that we contact
Alec Kolchek at Cleve Cr. for
definite information about the sheep.
The evening of the 16th we went
down to Baker for supplies and
mail while Taylor took three
of the horses up Selman Cr. about
a mile above Selman Caves. After
returning from Baker we met
him there and made camp
for the night at the public
camp ground. In the morning of
the 17th Alcorn, Taylor, and I
rode to the head of Selman
Cr. above Stella Lake and hunted
for sheep on the N.W. slope of
Mt. Wheeler and on the Mt. to
the N., locally called "Baldy."
We saw no definite evidence
of the mt. sheep except some
old beds between 11,500 and 12,500 ft.
on the N.W. Slope of Mt. Wheeler.
The whole area had been heavily
ranged over by domestic sheep and
we saw two bands nearby. They
had ranged high above timber line
