aug.16 Baker Cr., 11,100 ft.
grain all along Baker Cr. and abityphus
in the nuts where the squirrels
did little damage and succeeded
in killing off very few squirrels
and most of the grouse and sage-hen.
However, if strychnine was used as
poison the grouse and sage-hen
must have died from other causes
as it is not toxic to gallinaceous
birds.
Last night I set 25 mouse traps
along the Cr. and caught:
Peromyscus maniculatus 107 19
Mustela visognanii 14
All were baited with oatmeal
and set at the water's edge.
