Itinerary
Aug. 15 Baker Cr. 11,100 ft.
Golden eagles are numerous above timber line; 3 or 4 being seen every day.
Last night I set 24 mouse traps baited with oatmeal in the small marshy mdw. and along Baker Cr. near camp. The catch was:
Sorex sp? 1
It was caught along the edge of the Cr.
As I was nearing camp from the hunt last evening I flushed 3 blue grouse and collected 2 (?) [illegible] with my .22 pistol.
Aug. 16 Baker Cr. 11,100 ft.
Yesterday after preparing specimens in the morning I hunted N of camp toward Mt. Wheeler. I spent much time scanning the S. slope of Mt. Wheeler with my binoculars but was unable to discover any sheep.
No fresh tracks or sign were seen.
Since being camped in this locality Alcorn and I have seen only 4 male deer, 1? with fawn, 1?, and one 4 point ?. Alcorn saw the large buck yesterday as he was hunting.
