Itinerary
Aug. 9. Kingston Canyon
is to secure specimens of the
large Citellus belonging to the
otopermophliidae group which has
been reported from this vicinity.
So far we have seen none nor
any definite evidence of their
presence. A rancher at the mouth
of the canyon, Smithline by name,
reported that he had seen none
here this year but had seen
several last year. He also reported
that he had seen several Odosileus
virginianus in the Tomima Mts. to
the E of the Big Smoky Valley.
These had been seen several years ago.
My judgement of this man's
statements is, however, that they
cannot be relied upon to the fullest
extent.
Aug 10 Kingston Canyon
Yesterday I set out 2 No 1/2 steel traps
at burrows in an effort to catch the
rock squirrels reported from this
vicinity. I also set 34 mouse traps
along Kingston Cr. near camp.
The mouse traps were set at the
edge of the water and some among
