Deer are apparently fairly abundant here. The country, however,
has been heavily grazed by sheep
earlier in the spring and there
is little feed left. The number
and size of tracks indicate that
most of the large deer are at
a higher elevation at this time of
year.

This is indeed the summer
range for most of the deer. Tracks
are "everywhere" and a number of
deer have been seen. Those seen, together
with two bucks collected, and the
size of the tracks indicate
that the deer in this area are
mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus hemionus)
The two bucks killed, one a yearling
with two points on each antler,
and the other a very old buck with three
large points, a large eye guard and a
rudiments of a fourth point on each
antler, were both in light brown
