Dipodomys ordii
July 31 N.E. edge Alkali Lake, 4200 ft., Lake Co., Ore.
Kangaroo rats are very numerous in this locality, all specimens collected were in very fine sandy soil (sand dunes) covered by scattering sagebrush, Chrysothamnus, and greasewood. Large areas in the openings between the bushes are fairly churned up by their diggings. One cheek pouch contents was found to be the green stems of a rye grass cut into lengths of 4 - 5 in. This rye grass is very common here and grows to a height of some 3 ft.
Aug. 1, 2 mi. E Yinton, 4900 ft., Plumas Co., Calif.
This locality has many Dipodomys. They were collected on rather firm sandy ground covered by low sagebrush and Chrysothamnus. They were most abundant where the brush was thinnest. Their burrows were rather scattering and they appeared to be generally smaller than those collected at Alkali Lake.
