Longhurst 1939 Perognathus parvus July, 17 4 mi. NE Roosevelt, 200 ft., Klickitat Co., Wash. Perognathus were collected here near the R. along sand dunes and level sandy land covered by scattering sagebrush. The number trapped and the number of burrows indicated great abundance. Cheek pouches contained brome grass. July, 19 Paterson, 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash. Perognathus are very abundant here on the sagebrush covered hills back from the R. In fact they seem to be almost the sole inhabitants of these hills - (that is of the small mice). Johnson and I set out 180 traps and we caught only Perognathus and one Peromyscus maniculatus. Brome grass seeds in cheek pouches. Some Perognathus were also collected on Blalock Island. They are fairly numerous there, but not nearly so as on the mainland. They occur in the sandy sagebrush covered soil on top of the island and also in the brush (willows, poplars, airdrocks, wild roses and choke cherries) along the banks of the R.
