July 20
Pateron, 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash.
lined with willows and poplars.
The Ranch itself, however, is
mostly in pear orchard with some
alfalfa. Many large locust trees have
been planted as wind-breaks. Other
birds seen about camp include:
Sparrow hawk, spotted flycatcher,
warbler, night hawk, Canada goose,
California bullock oriole, Mt. Bluebird,
marsh hawk. I collected 14 Items Bullockii.

The afternoon of the 20th we
moved camp to the above location
on the Snake R., about 1 mi. from
promits mouth. Camp was made
in a grove of willows bordering the
R. Back of camp were alfalfa and
corn fields, but up and down the
R one encountered sagebrush flats.
Poplars also lined the R. A great
number of night hawks were seen
flying in the late afternoon and
evening along with one or two
small bats. I collected 2 nighthawks.
