Itinerary
July 17 4 mi. NE Roosevelt, 200 ft., King County, Wash.
from a small pond beside the R.
near camp. Mergansers are
also quite numerous; They appear
to be red-breasted. Other birds
seen include a kingfisher and
numerous bank swallows. I collected
5 bank swallows this morning.
We seem to be getting into
black-tail jackrabbit country.
None were noted in the vicinity
of Maryhill, but the first one
was seen along Old Woman Cr.,
a few mi W of Roosevelt. Several
have also been seen dead along
the road and a few seen in the
sagebrush about camp. We
are leaving for the vicinity
of Blalock's pond this morning.
Last evening I collected 13
Scaphisopus from the same
pond from which the geese were
blushed. They were collected after
dark with the aid of a flashlight.
July 18 Paterson, 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash.
Yesterday we moved camp to the
Halliday ranch at Paterson. We
camped in a grove of willows bordering
