Arenavera interpulls
27 May Pitmegea River - two seen
flying over the uplows back of
camp mixed in with a flock
of 12 plectoral sand pipers.
9 May Red Cape Beaufort - two seen in
the concentration of birds near the
downline site.
June Peters-Schroeder Lakes - a very bright
plumed bird was first seen when it
flew spreadeagle from a gravel bar
on the lower part of Whistler Creek
and attacked a Mew gull which kept
flying back and forth over the
flats between the lakes. The turnstone
attacked very vigorously and actually
struck the gull once with its beak.
The attack persisted over a course of
about 5 minutes and occurred in
two distinct action groups. The
turnstone made loud chattering noise
when it flew at the gull. Finally the
turnstone flew by me and I shot
it. Behavior suggested a nest somewhere
in the area but none could be found.
