Acanthis hoveni
2 June Peters-Schroeder Lakes - very common
in the numerous willow stands in
Whistler Creek. The following old
and active nests were found
#1 old nest 4 ft up in heavily browsed
stand with stream 7 feet.
#2 old nest - same as above but with
an old egg with small hole in it.
#3 active nest - 2 eggs - 18" up in
willow of 3 1/2 ft even - creek bottom
outer construction of dried grass edge
inner lining of ptarmigan feathers.
#4 active - 3 eggs, 2 ft up in even
of 4 1/2 feet, open stand in creek bed
lined with ptarmigan feathers & sheep hair.
#5 - old - 2 ft up in even of 4 ft
#6 - active - 2 eggs - under ground in
between stems of willow w even of 2 1/2 ft -
on a pile of leaves - edge - grass for outer-
lined with ptarmigan feathers and sheep
hair. On middle slope of alluvial fan.
#7 - active - 4 eggs - 18" up in even of 4 1/2
feet - open stand in creek bed - lined
with ptarmigan feathers and catnip grass
heads.
#8 - old - 2 ft up on lateral branch, 1
feet with crown 4 ft - on bank of
creek.
