Calceavis lappaeus
26-22 May Pitrugeea River - common at
all levels on both sides of river.
Communal bird. Males in full
display and song. Sexual chases
and copulations observed. Other
males seem to be present. Twice
during a sexual chase a third
bird (57) has joined in. This
did not result in territorial
or aggressive behavior by the
"mated" 57. An upweight, stretching
display by 57 was seen between
2 copulations. Copulation occurred
on the ground after a close chase
low over the ground.
25 May Pitrugeea - seen all over as
usual. Courtship displays and
sexual chases seen commonly.
Age 9 was seen carrying an
Ericophorum blossom.
4-27 May Pitrugeea - pairs seem to be
distributed at a density of about
5 to 6 pairs per acre. Pairs cannot
be driven out of a limited area of a
few cloven pocks.
31 May Peters - Schwader - moderately common
on lower slopes adjacent to lake and
on lower parts of the fans - reversal
