14 May Dream River
A 87 was seen sitting on green
ice ca 100 yds down stream from
the Coulman trail. It did not leave
the general area when flushed by
our vessel. About 2 miles further down
stream at the high sand dunes a 9
was seen. She did not act as though
a nest was present in the area. These
are the only arcto relic in two days of
observation in the Barrow region.
20-22 May Pitmegea River - several quick
observations - most by north of
the river - only one has been
seen on the south ridge. As best
we can make out there were
6 individuals present on the
south ridge on 21 May between
the river, the ocean, the first
high ground north and the first
high ground up river - in an
area of about 1 square mile. One
87 and a 9 appears to be localized
near the board of the high ridge
on the weight limit glove camp but
no nest could be found. Another
87 & 9 was seen on the ground
just west of this pair but they
