T. Cube 1957 Mycteria scandiacea 27 July Pitt Point Some of the men said the day before they had seen the same owl catch an adult ptarmigan. There were two broods of ptarmigan with adults in her immediate area. At 1710 I found Makeis nest #3. An adult "♀" was sitting ca 200 yds away to the SE on a wire. There were three young, one about 4-5 weeks old, one ca 4 weeks old and one ca 3 weeks old. The latter appeared quite weak. The oldest left the nest area as I approached, but I brought him back. Pellets observed to contain only lemming remains and there was 1 fresh lemming in the nest, an adult "♂", a wet pellet contained skulls of 4 lemmings. These birds were banded later in the evening and given #'s 619-1204, 05, and 06. 28 July Pitt Point At 0930, three widely spaced owls seen on high bank on east side of river c a 2 mi up from mouth.
