Some of the men said the day before
they had seen the same owl catch
an adult ptarmigan. There were
two broods of ptarmigan with adults
in her immediate area.
At 1710 I found Makeis nest
#3. An adult "♀" was sitting ca
200 yds away to the SE on a wire.
There were three young, one about
4-5 weeks old, one ca 4 weeks old
and one ca 3 weeks old. The latter

left the nest area as I approached,
but I brought him back. Pellets

remains and there was 1 fresh
lemming in the nest, an adult "♂", a
wet pellet contained skulls of 4 lemmings.
These birds were banded later in
the evening and given #'s 619-1204,
05, and 06.
