Stercorarius longicaudus
20 May Pitmegea - a pair was seen
flying over the study area
south of camp.
21 May Pitmegea - a pair was seen
briefly on the north side of the
river around 1430 - beyond the
first ridge of high greechel.
23 May Pitmegea - one was seen
across the river from camp in
the early afternoon, and I saw
one fly across the river in the
same area late in the evening.
25 May Pitmegea - three pairs were
found today in the study area.
The first of these was encountered
along the creek (see general
account) between river and
first ridge, I shot both birds
before it was determined that
these birds were settled in a
definite area. Two other pairs
were definitely settled along
the high ridge at the far side
of the study area. One of these
had its head down about
100 yds from the creek. The other
pair seemed to occupy an area
move to the clutter of the ridge
