Stercorarius pomarinus
22 May Pitmgea River - 1445 - flushed
20 seen congregating about a
Knoll on the high ridge north
of the river and upstream 1/4
mile or so from camp. Birds
came down in a strong wind.
23 May Pitmgea River - in the morning
a straggling flock of 11 followed
by two had been flying down
the coast in the vicinity of
the study area. No other flocks
seen. By late afternoon single
jaguars were seen coarsing about
at various quarters all over
the environs of the camp and
the "announcement" call was
heard at two different stations
near Chileli's study area back
of camp. Very rapid dispersal
of the flocks.
4 May Pitmgea - no flocks - singles seen
hovering over the tundra in
all quarters.
5 May Pitmgea - birds still scattered
over tundra - several apparently
associated such as pairs. Some
incipient chasing and displaying
noted, but organization still pretty,
