Itinerary
July 31. High Range Sand E of camp and the
lower nearer ridge. Walked over
saddle in direction of 2nd pool in
Burned Corral Canyon - saw - a cotton-
tail, a Eutamias dorsalis and a
Eutamias m. pictus. Saw a flicker.
Near the second pool I shot a black
headed grosbeak. (Zamelodia melanocephala)
Aug 1. Started for home at 830 gm
travelled by way of Calloway's Ranch,
(Currant P.O.) Eureka, Austin, Fallon,
and camped E of Sparks for the
night. At or near Austin, saw
a large red tailed hawk swoop
down and pick some rodent off
the highway - beating a smaller
marsh hawk out of the prey.
Aug 2 Started off at 4.45 am.
Had breakfast at Reno; stopped at
Truckee for three hours while waiting
for a wheel and brake adjustment on
the Dodge Truck. Left Truckee 1045 am.
Stopped at Colfax 118 p.m. for lunch -
Arrived in Berkeley 545 p.m. Four
ninths of party completed trip - 3 continued in
Nevada with Reno. 2 left party third week
on account of illness - Very successful trip -
