Contd July 30
Itinerary-
After collecting the traps, I hunted up
the canyon. Shot a 'woodhouse jay', a
tanager, Piranga ludoriciana and at the
head of the canyon a Eutamias quadriuit.
attus. The latter was on a vertical rock
wall a short distance from a small spring.
The vegetation in this canyon was quite
different from that in Burned Corral Canyon
proper. Conspicuous were a small leaved
maple, firs and limber pines. Birds were
plentiful. Chickadees, Rock Sparrows, grosbeaks
(black headed) Clarks' Crows in addition to
those previously mentioned occurred in numbers.
Was disappointed in not getting the Bushy
Tailed Rat especially since faces and burrows
or nesting materials pointed so directly to his
presence. Frequent caves made this
locality especially desirable for the life
of the Bushy Tail.
July 31st
Hunted up the valley E of the road to
Sharps. Shot a young towhee, a chickadee
and what I took to be a Vermifora
lutescens. Saw a large doe just above
a rock slide E and N of the only spring
that I found along this route. Worked up
the canyon to the saddle between the
