Lilleland 1933. Itinerary - 33 Cont. July 25 Was advised that I was to go with Ward Russell to Teecanoph on following day so I set no traps. July 26. Left Camp at 7:35 with W. Russell. Reo loaded with specimens - empty gas containers etc. Stopped at Garretts at Nyala where we took on two Standard Oil drums for refilling. When we came to the pass which connects Railroad Valley and the lower end of Hot Creek Valley we saw a nesting falcon, up on a high cliff. Bird flew off nest when we stopped and though we waited, did not return. Estimate nest at 75 feet above floor of pass and about 15 feet from the top. It would not have been at all impossible with care to have reached nest from the top. For the first time since I left Southern Calif (Pasadena) I was sure of seeing mocking birds. Did see one in a cage at Warm Springs but these were wild. Here Atriplex grows to a height of 3- 3 1/2 feet - really luxuriant in growth and patches of meadow grass spot the landscape.
