Cont July 24
hunting coat and with a half dozen Rat traps
We made the best of our limited Supply.
Got up at 10pm. Went over traps and reset those
that were sprang.
Itinerary.
July 25
Caught 2 Perognathus nevadensis, 1 Dipodomys
m. leucipes, 1 Onychomys, 1 Peromyscus maniculatus,
and 4 Microdipodops. These were caught
on a sand dune on the edge of the
large alkali lake by which we camped.
This lake is about 3 mi across. Color
as white as diatomaceous earth. We
caught a live Microdipodops also,
Vegetation mostly Atriplex, rather
low growing; some Chrysos thanmus also.
Arrived at Big Creek about 9:20 in time
to see trucks leaving for Burnted
Corral Canyon. Just before sighting trucks
we saw two antelope loping down toward
west in the sage brush. The white tails
were very apparent. As for distinguishing
other characteristics - distance was prohibitis.
We also saw a Raven about the same
time,
We drove via Njala to Burnted
Corral Canyon where we established
camp. Canyon itself is well covered with
junipers, pinion, Rhus trilobata and willows.
Stream runs a short distance from camp.
Mint grows in quantity along streambed.
Rather high peaks rise Nand E of
campsite.
