(continued) June 30. we went up the ridge in the direction of
Jefferson. Came to an old mine shaft and in
this we found the nests of two wood rats.
Traps were set, one just inside the opening
the other at the extreme end. Returned to
camp.
July 1.
Checked trapline set July 30. Ward Russell
again took Paul Wilson and self over course.
Noted cotton markers and accounted for
traps. Took only one Neosorex. Additional
specimens included several each of Microtus
mordax (near water) Peromyscus crinitus and
Peromyscus maniculatus (in rocks) and Perognathus
parvus on a flat. Also took a Neotoma
up in the rocks. Gopher traps were unsprung.
Two gopher traps were set in recent diggings.
Traps set for Neotoma in mine shaft were
cleaned of oatmeal but unsprung.
Spent the afternoon in hunting up the
canyon with Francis Gale and later with Frank
Graham. Looked for conies but saw none.
Shot a green tailed Towhee and two Eutamias.
Returned to camp at 4:30 p.m.
