Before this I had long discussion with the Biology Honours class at the University (Ben Bell is faculty member in charge of this group; he works on Liopelma), John Wells (copeland biology) is Professor of the Biology Dept. Also at dinner were Mary McIntyre - who had invited me on behalf of the Royal Soc, and Kelly Alderton - recent cost of Wodzicki who will be starting graduate work at the Univ. of Montana.
Others were I met in conjunction with the seminar: Kim King (Royal Soc, works on plants & helped arrange seminar), Chas. Dougherty (from USA & works on speciation in skinks), Gordon Hewitt (geneticist - 2nd. Dept.), George Gibbs (entomologist & a good student with Chas. Bird at Sydney U in 1973-64), Russ Pickard (MSc student working on Murs & islands), & Elain Murphy (PhD student working on Murs). Students work with Bell.
July 27
Drove to Ecology Division, DSIR, Lower Hutt where we joined Mike Fitzgerald, John Gibb, & John Flux (N1105) for trip into the Orongorongo Valley. Left on van at the Division & travelled in 3 4 wheel drive vehicles down to Division's field station in Orongorongo Valley, & then lunch walked around various forest types in the area.
Toward evening went down to River Road with Dr. Gill to radio tree collits & study eigen of low density
