LIDICKEN 1991 Northern California Trip Dec 25 - 28 Dec 25 - Left home ~ 13:45 + drove N on US 101. Dinner - Garberville; overnight = Eureka with Del & Eddy Day. Dec 26 - Left Day's club 10:45 + drove S, to Lost Lake Rd exit + went to So. Jetty Rd + went around Jetty (Humboldt Bay). Weather was cold with a strong NE wind blowing. Continued N on US 101; lunch = Trinidad (restaurant on Trinidad Bay) - took 1 1/3 hrs! Drove N to Crescent City stopping briefly a few times along Big & Dry Lagoons. Got motel (Totem) + had snacks 8:45-9:05. Dec 27 - Rain = raining most of night. Light rain most of day, winds moderate. 09:10 - 13:55 Visited around Lake Earl Wildlife Area. Both Lake Earl and especially Lake Talawa were full of dark herons. Some in small boats were driving hundreds of ducks toward the islands; some were also shooting from a canoe. Returned to Crescent City for lunch. Then drove to Arcata + took US 299 E to Redding. Heavy rain & fog in intervals. It got dark near at Willamette Creek. Rain stopped as we approached Redding. Took I-5 to Red Bluff. Rain started up again on way to Red Bluff. Got a motel (Triangle). Rained for most of night. Dec 28 - 09:30 left Red Bluff for breakfast. Rain showers until close to Sacramento Wildlife Refuge which we visited 10:30-12:10. Here it was partly cloudy, sunny, cool, & windy. Continued S to Elk Grove S. of Sacramento through heavy rain + hail storms. Visited Will
