LIDICKER 1991 Hawaii high count. From the chin to the chest, Hawaii on line 6 mid-islands were like those in Barking shops (2 small ones had no bears or only walking - 1 is [illegible] graph). Reports George reports no mangroves in Kailua. Reptiles noted from Lanai: Skinks - seen both on Aug. 5 Geckos - see notes on Aug. 5; perhaps they are common. George & Kelly think that anoles also occur on Lanai but not seen more. Green sea turtle - ~10 watched feeding in surf just off lava rocks along Skip Ponds Beach (Aug. 6). Seemed to be 2-3 ft in circumference large. Lana'i Bird List: Hawaiian (Dark-rumped) Petrel - 1 [illegible] Kahakilis jump (sw cliff) Black (White-capped) Noddy - 6+ Vic. Kahakilis jump & 1 seen sun along S. shore of island White-tailed Tropicbird - 4 soaring in Hanolo Gulch on E. side (seen from Munroe Trail); 3+ along sea cliffs, SW side of island. Black-crowned Night Heron - 6 all flying at dusk just S of Lanai City (Aug. 6) toward NW & settling points. Gray Francolin - abundant from Lanai City to coast; a few at slightly higher elevations; many woods seen (mostly 2 1/2 group). Ring-necked Pheasant - common in Palawai Basin. Wild Turkey - seen frequently from ~8:00 to see land (on both N & S ends of island).
