Lidicker 1991 Aug 5 cont. Drive NW toward Garden of the Gods (Kanaqunu Hwy). Turn N, turned coast on Aweilua Rd. + descended to near the coast + then climbed back + went down Kaena Rd to (2.5 mi.) a few miles from coast + returned. Caught geckos + drove the waying (w/EL#4 #13). Aug 6 - Drive to Manele Bay harbor at 09:00 when we took tour on jonboat back to 11:45. We were the only passengers & skijper was "Larry". We went round Sweethart Rock + W along coast, past Palaea Point, Kahakii's jump + N to Kaumalapau, the island's port. Then we returned to Kahakii's jump when we snorkled along the edge of the cliffs + a small cave. Returned to Manele Bay & to have lunch with George. Return to Lanai City. Then about 14:00 drive N & NE on Keomuku Rd. At the coast we drove 1.1 mi., NW along Shipwreck Beach, stopping to look around + walk over in the surf. Then we drove 7 mi. from the rd. junction (and 8 percent) along the coast in the other direction (SE). We found the old church at Keomuku & continued almost to the south where a harbor at Kahana Hawaii. Return to Lanai City at dusk + drove S 1/2 hour into the pineapple fields (standard) to look for owls. Aug 5 cont. Drive 2.3 mi., down Kaena Rd. from jct with Polihua Rd. & then walked down about another 1/2 mi.. At about 1.6 mi. down this road a small grove of a leguminous tree begins ("margate"). On the way back we again examined the area of dry forest geckos mostly south SE of the "Garden of the Gods"; some on both sides of the road.
