LIDICKER 1990 Aug 20 cont. for the night. Ontario to Riley (stopped briefly and stopped 16 mi. W Burns): Gt. BK Heron - 2, Red-tailed Hawk - 2+, Kestrel - 4+, Brewer's Blackbird - 20+ (fledglings seen with streaked breasts). Ring-billed Gull - 4 (rusty-tipped), Barn Swallow - +++; Violet- gr. Swallow - 2#, K:lldeer - 4, Turkey Vulture - 2, Cov. Nighthawk - 8+, Swainson's Hawk - 1, resident. quail flew across rd in front of us (looked like Scaled Quail but must have been Calh. P.). Also saw 1 Coyote. Riley to Wagontire (nice place to stop for snack): N. Raven - 2, Horned Lark - 1 w/ 2 juven., W. Meadowlark - 1. Wagontire to Lake Albert - N. Raven - 3. Stopped around town along W. side of Lake Albert. It is especially rich in bird life at the N end where the highway is not close to the lake. At one moment an eagle was diving down. Birds seen at Lake: ducks - thousands of which I could detect Shoveller - 20+, Mallard - 10+, Redhead Duck - 2, teal - 100's. Sandpipers - hundreds of which I could identify: Avocet - 40+, Western Sandpiper - 2+, Killdeer - 10+, Plovers - thousands most of which were Wilson's Plover saw 20 + Northerns as well. gulls - hundreds of which a few could be identified as California Gulls. Eared Grebe - 80+ Long-billed Shrike - 1 Say's Phoebe - 1 W. Wood Pewee - 1
