LIDICKEN 1990 Aug 18 cont. Stopped in Moorcroft, Wyo. (coffee - 10$). Stopped briefly at next stop, along Powder River (Johnson Co.). Up to this point noted only E. Kingbird - 1, + Brewer's Blackbird - 1. At the next stop (14:30) the two cottonwoods + Typha but almost no open water. Very hot. Only bird was 1 & Heavy Woodpecker - seen + heard very well. Cont. on I-90 to US 14 (NW of Sheridan). A few mi, W. Dayton saw 1 Ferruginous Hawk (great look), Gt Bl Thrush on nest, Dsn Corvinaut - 3. By 16:30 we were climbing up into the Bighorn Mtns. In mountains saw: 2 & more together + separately a group of 3 FF. Also 5+ mule deer + 1 DOF farm. Passed through Grand Pass at 17:10 which is just below treeline. 1 DOF foraging. At 17:45 stopped at Shell Falls where we stopped briefly & saw 2 possible Park Finches (J now, W. A Grayhall saw 2 Golden Eagles). Cont. on US 16 to Cody where we got motel for the night. There were two large stones on either side of us as we entered Cody. Drove back & I took a moment to look at 3 large ponds with lots of ducks. Huge rain here. Aug 19 - Got up early + went back for a look at the ponds but then in less activity and was cold & windy. Went back to Cody for breakfast then continued west toward Yellowstone. Birds seen in the Cody area: Corn Mergler - 1 (20 mi E Cody) Yel'dl. Blackbird - 1+ Brewer's Blackbird - 10+
