LIDICKER 1990 Aug 16 am. Warbling Vireo. I finally heard. Hwy 2 de tour: L-82 to 68, 710 to Long City, 92 to Ansley. Continued on to Broken Bow when we had lunch. 14:20 - 14:40. Still seeing E. Kingbird regularly. W. Meadowlark between Ansalo & Dunning. Stopped briefly at Nebraska Natl Forest in Thomas Co. We didn't see any forest deer, but did see a large flock of sparrows, then 30 second to the Clipping Sparrow - at least 5 were very striking: size + shape of Chiffchaff, but had finely but distinctly streaked breasts, faint or no greywing & at least 1 light line over crown. It was very hot. Giv: chiffchaff Cond. N. on US 83 stopping several times in the Valentine Natl Wildlife Refuge to look at birds, particularly 2 Larks ~ 2 1/2 mi. S of th S border of the refuge, & again in the refuge. Went next to US 20 to visit Valentine. God noted (Rains) & then went to Fort Niobrwa Wildlife Refuge, or. ~ 20:00. Looked away until ~ 21:00 when we found Jerry Wolff returning from his Bison study area (with Marjorie from Charlottesville) Jerry joined us for dinner in Valentine & then for discussions later. Saw at refuge: lots of Black-tailed Prarie dogs, Bison, elk, Long-horn cattle. Saw Sylvilagus sign. See Aug 17 for bird list. Aug 17. Breakfast at "Chat 'n' Chew" restaurant where coffee including muffins = 15ยข; full breakfast for two came to $2.26. Met Jerry at the refuge at 08:00 &
