Loddickson 1990 Aug 14 - Took Hwy 60 to Hendersonville stopping at Ben Harrison St. Pk. for ~2 hr walk on one of their nature trails (08:30-08:55). Saw a flash: Yellow billed Cuckoo - 2 Summer Tanager - 2 Yel. thr. Vireo - 2 Chipping Sparrow - 2 Redwing + Corn Grackle - 4 Cardinal - + Purple Martin - 300+ Downy Woodpecker - 5 Hairy Woodpecker - 1 Red bell. Woodpecker - 2 Carolina Chickadee - + Wh. br. Nuthatch - + Morning Dove - + Wood Peewee - + Least Flycatcher - 1 Flicker + Am. Goldfinch - + Red H. Hawk - 1 E. Bluebird - + E. King bird - + Mockingbird - 2 T. Vulture - 1 Drove on to Salem where Wildlife Management area (SW of Henderson on Hwy 60) is ~5 mi. farther W). This area was mostly farms + devoted to hunting. We saw only Barn Swallows, Crowbirds - 3, + Kentucky Warbler - 1. Then we returned to Hendersonville + crossed Ohio R. to Evansville, Indiana & then went W on state Hwy 62. Before doing this we stopped at the Archbold Park just N of Hendersonville (11:30-14:0). It was great; we wanted to go back. We walked the "Wilderness Lake Trail," "Lake Overlook Trail" & "Copperbottom Trail." Birds seen: E. Kingbird - 1 Wood Peewee - 30+ Coastal Flycatcher - 2 Alder (B. thicket) Flycatcher - 1 Yel. bell Cuckoo - 6+ Bk. M. Cuckoo - 1 (heard only)
