LIDICKER 1990 Aiken, S.C. to Berkeley California Aug (12-21 Aug) Aug 12 - Left Aiken 09:00 to drive to California. To Saluda - Hwy's 1, 392, 39; to Newberry & I-26 or Hwy 121. I-40 to I-81 to 25E to Chesnut Gap (lunch near Asheville, N.C.) arriving ~ 15:30. Birds seen on this natural: Loggerhead Shrike, morning Dove, Robin (1), Mockingbird, C. Grosbeak, Cardinal, C. Crow, Bd. B. Warbler, Bluejy, T. Vultur. Near Ridge Spring, saw a S signaton on road side. At Chesnut Gap, low drive to the Pinnacles Lookout deck (15:30 to 16:45). Total birds seen: Red-tl Hawk - 1 Aigun, Shrike, arriving at Park T. Vultur - 5, Blue Vultur - 1, C. Crow - 2. It was so quiet & birdless it was eerie. Continued to I-75 & on to Lexington, Kentucky. Had dinner in Blandon, Ky. Stayed overnight with Wayne & Shirley Davis. Heard Cow. Nightherds? Aug 13 - Wayne took me to Univ. Ky farms & showed me his microwaves colorgrapher taking photos & show his abnormal study cows. He has designed a bird house for Bluebirds that is not needed by House Sparrows. Also visited Wayne's Dept. of Vet. Met a few students of Ray Collins (Jim? Clark). Had lunch & came out from there to Wayne's place & headed toward Louisville at 13:45. Took Hwy 60 & I-64 & continued W. through Southern Indiana. Took Hwy 62 at Leavenworth east to St. Croix & back to I-64. Birds seen up to th[e] for the day: Bluejy, Carolina Warbler, Tufted T.-tamer,
